Privacy policy

Last updated 14 August 2026

Awarome delivers packages and same-day shopping across Abuja. Doing that means handling personal information — your name, where you live, what you ordered and who is receiving it. This policy sets out exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and the control you have over it.

Who we are

Awarome is an Abuja-based delivery and marketplace service. We operate this website, the Awarome mobile apps, and the rider and vendor apps that fulfil your orders. In data protection terms we are the data controller for the information described here.

You can reach our privacy team at [email protected] or [email protected].

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your first and last name, email address and phone number.
  • Your login PIN, stored only as a secure one-way hash. We can never read it back.
  • Delivery addresses — the address itself, plus any flat, floor or landmark detail you add, and the coordinates of the location you picked.
  • Package details — when you send a package, the pickup and drop-off addresses, and the name and phone number of the person receiving it.
  • Notes you write for a rider, such as handling instructions.
  • How you heard about us, if you tell us during sign-up.
  • Anything you send us when you contact support.

Information we generate

  • Your orders, carts, deliveries and their status history.
  • Payment records — the amount, reference, method and outcome. See Payments below.
  • Ratings and feedback you leave on a delivery.

Information collected automatically

  • Approximate location, so we can show vendors and prices that actually serve your area.
  • Device and usage data — browser or app version, pages viewed, and general interaction patterns.
  • Diagnostic data when something breaks, so we can fix it.

If you are receiving a package rather than sending one, we hold your name, phone number and the drop-off address because the sender gave them to us so the rider can reach you.

How we use it

  • To create and secure your account, and to sign you in.
  • To take payment and issue receipts, refunds and adjustments.
  • To dispatch riders, route deliveries and let you track them.
  • To let the rider and vendor contact you or your receiver on arrival.
  • To show products, vendors and delivery prices available at your location.
  • To send transactional messages — order confirmations, delivery updates and security notices.
  • To send marketing messages where you have agreed, which you can stop at any time.
  • To improve search results, recommendations and reliability, and to detect fraud or abuse.
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you without human involvement.

Who we share with

We share only what is needed for the job in hand, and we require every recipient to protect it.

  • Vendors — the store fulfilling your order receives the items ordered and the delivery details needed to prepare and hand over the order.
  • Riders — the assigned rider receives the pickup and drop-off address, and the name and phone number of the sender and receiver, so they can complete and confirm the delivery.
  • Payment processing — Paystack processes card and transfer payments.
  • Maps and addresses — Google Maps and Places power address search and distance calculation.
  • Messaging — email and SMS providers, and Firebase for push notifications, deliver your order and account messages.
  • Infrastructure and analytics — hosting, image storage, error monitoring and Google Analytics help us run and improve the service.
  • Legal and safety — where we are legally required, or to protect the rights and safety of our customers, riders or staff.
  • Business transfers — if Awarome is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may transfer with the business. We will tell you first.

Location data

Location is central to how Awarome works: we only serve Abuja, and prices depend on distance. We use the delivery address you choose and, with your permission, your device location to find nearby vendors and to price a delivery.

You can refuse or revoke location permission in your browser or device settings. If you do, you can still use Awarome by entering an address manually — some convenience features simply will not work.

Payments

Card and bank transfer payments are handled by Paystack. Your full card number never reaches Awarome and is never stored on our systems. We retain the transaction reference, amount, method and status so we can show your order history and handle refunds and disputes.

Where a bank transfer is used, we hold the account details issued for that transaction so we can match your payment to your order.

Cookies & analytics

We use cookies and similar local storage to keep you signed in, remember your cart and delivery address, and understand how the site is used. Analytics is provided by Google Analytics.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser. Essential cookies — such as those keeping your session and cart — are required for the site to function, so blocking them will break parts of it.

How long we keep it

  • Account information — for as long as your account is open.
  • Order, delivery and payment records — retained after your account closes where tax and accounting law requires it.
  • Support conversations — kept for a reasonable period to handle follow-up and disputes.
  • Analytics and diagnostic data — kept in aggregated or shortened form.

When information is no longer needed we delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.

Security

We protect data in transit with encryption, hash your PIN rather than storing it, restrict internal access to staff who need it, and monitor for faults and suspicious activity.

No system is perfectly secure. Keep your PIN private, and contact us immediately at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed your account.

Your rights

Subject to law, you can ask us to:

  • Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your data where we have no continuing lawful reason to keep it.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing.
  • Provide your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent you previously gave, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.

You can update your name, phone, email and addresses yourself from My account. For anything else, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity first.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Children

Awarome is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

International transfers

Some of the providers we rely on — payments, maps, messaging, hosting and analytics — process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens we rely on providers offering an adequate level of protection and appropriate contractual safeguards.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and we will give you prominent notice of significant changes — by email or in the app — before they take effect.
